At Silva, it all starts with the safety and well-being of children:

• We make our cribs, beds and dressers exclusively in Europe from wholly sustainable sources and also source all hardware, finishes and other materials solely in Europe. We work only with wood vendors who comply with the terms of European Treaty for Forest Conservation and the Forest Stewardship Council.
• We craft our cribs from solid beechwood, a coveted Northern hemisphere hardwood with the durability of oak or maple, as well as superior workability, finishing and mechanical properties. The beechwood also ensures a weight and density that minimize the risk that a crib will be tipped over by a small child.
• Our children’s dressers are engineered, designed and built with all exposed parts made of solid wood, minimizing the impact of seasonal changes in temperature or humidity. Every dresser comes with a wall-anchoring kit, so that it can’t fall over and injure anyone, including your child. We use soft-closing German hardware that prevents pinched fingers and gives the drawers a long life—independent tests show that they work smoothly for a minimum of 80,000 uses, or an expected life of more than 70 years!
• All our dresser drawers are held together with English dovetails, offering not only simple elegance, but one of the strongest and most reliable types of wood joinery. The dovetails promote longevity and value, as well as the safety of your child
• Silva’s dressers all have solid wood corner brackets, enhancing their structural integrity and providing long-term value with minimal risk of injury
• We use only vegetable or water-based finishes on all our furniture, so there are VOCs (volatile organic compounds), such as lead, formaldehyde or other toxins, that may compromise your health or your child’s well-being

To ensure that we are meeting or exceeding CPSC requirements, we regularly take new products and designs to authorized testing facilities across the United States for inspection and review. We also conduct routine quality and safety reviews at our factory, carefully examining our practices and verifying that all of our cribs, beds and dressers are made with strict adherence to safety and health requirements.
